Government Structure:
Type of Government:
-Argentina is a Republic Government which means it works off of a Federal System.
-There is 23 provinces and 1 federal district, Buenos Aires.
-Each of the thress branches have responsibilities and so the people of each of the provinces in Argentina including the federal district.
Leaders:
-The main leader is the president which is the Head of Government and the Head of State. The current president is Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
-There are smallers regional leaders and people who hold government positions throughout the branches.
Regional Governments:
-There are regional governments and they are the 23 provinces of Argentina and Buenos Aires
-Each province holds some power in the government.
-The provinces include: Formosa, Salta, Jujuy, Chaco, Isones, Corrientes, Santiago del Estero, Ucuman, Catamarca, Santa Fe, Entre Rios, Ciudad de Buenos Airies, La Rioja, Corboda, San Juan, San Luis, Mendoza, La Pampa, Neuguen, Rio Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego.
Branches:
-Executive Branch: This branch has the president, vice president, and cabinet (appointed by president). Vice president and president serve 4 year terms and can serve 2 terms each.
-Legislative Branch: This branch has the Senate (72 seats, direct vote, and 1/3 of members are elected every 2 years for 6-year terms). It also has the Chamber of Deputies (257 seats, direct vote, 1/2 elected every 2 years for 4-year terms).
-Judicial Branch: This branch has the supreme courte/corte suprema (consists of court president, vice-president, and 5 judges) They have a system of federal and provincial courts (Judges are nominated by the president and approved by senate; they serbe for life). This branch also includes subordinate courts.
Structure:
-Argentines can vote at age 16, but they are required to do so once they turn 18.
-Even though it is required, it has not went over 80% participation in recent years.
-They have the right of speech, religion, and to assmble & associate.
-Europeans have more rights and indigenous people have little to no rights in responce.
-The vote for government officials comes from a joint vote of all the political provinces.
-The order of power is the central government and then regional governments.

Cooperations (Military, Political, & Economic)
United Nations (Military) UN: -This organization replaced the League of Nations and is used to prevent a 3rd World War from breaking out with the use of military action and other strategies. -This organization consists of 192 states including Argentina. -Argentina is temporarily of the UN Security Council which is used to establish peacekeeping operations, international sanctions, and authorize military action. Organization of American States (Political & Military) OAS: -This organization tries to improve democracy, human rights, security, and development. -Argentina has H.E. Nilda Celia Garre as an ambassador and permanent representative on the OAS. Inter-American Development Bank (Economic) IDB: -This organization consists of Latin America and Carribean Islands. -The purpose is to reduce poverty and inequality. -It is the largest source of development financing for Latin America and the Carribean Islands. -Argentina was a founding member and makes up most of The Executive Director's Office. |
